There is a little town in the Texas Hill Country that has cornered the market on “quaint.” There is no shortage good food, local wine, eclectic shopping and great music to be enjoyed. Oh, and the population is 20….
Gruene (pronounced “green”) was settled in the mid 1800s by German immigrants. Side note: I have grown up proud of my German heritage. Papa Telle came to America and was a Lutheran Minister in St. Louis in the 1880’s. His daughter married Thomas Wiegand, my great-grandfather.
So yes, Gruene is oozing with history!
Gruene is also very important to the music industry! Gruene Hall was built in 1878 and is the oldest continually running dance hall in Texas. George Strait, Jerry Jeff Walker, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, and many other songwriters and musicians got their start here.
So what does this all have to do with Whyt’s Whimsy? I was accepted last week to be a vendor at Gruene Market Days! I am over the moon excited! My first show in Gruene will be June 15th and 16th. Send your family floating down the river and spend the day shopping in Gruene!
