Table Transformation

2012 003
2012 007
This table has been through transformations over the years. It started out life as a cute little plant stand that I pick up at Hobby Lobby for about $10. Eventually I added a glass top and used it as a bedside table. It eventually made it to the living room. One day, a bee got in my bonnet and decided the top needed to be bigger. I picked up a table top from Lowe’s (1" x 36" x 36" Stain Kiln-Dried Kiln-Dried Elliotis Pine Round).

I dug though the hardware in the garage and used large washers and screws to attach the table top.

I then painted the top with a can of leftover off- white paint I found in my stash.2012 014
Not bad, huh?

After serving me well in the living room, the table was calling for a change.  Lesley over at Saving Grace was showing me one of her latest projects and I knew what I wanted to do.
I borrowed an overhead projector from my friend. The old overheads can be found all over Craigslist and through school district auctions for pennies on the dollar.

I printed the clock and “Vins” clipart on overhead transparencies.

I lined up the table a adjusted the size. I then used black craft paint and followed the lines.

From the Vin sign, I used just the grape cluster.

I will finish the table with Johnson Wax.

A Bird’s Eye View

Coming back from New Braunfels last month, I wanted to stop in some different places. I had been wanting to visit Smithville, TX. This is the where Sandra Bullock goes home to in the movie Hope Floats. I found this cute bird cage Dixie’s Den off Hwy 71. I spent a whole $10! I also filled up my the back of my Commander with other goodies. SCORE!

I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with it. I was digging around in the laundry room and came across a Hemma light kit I had bought from Ikea years ago. It retails for a whopping $5 these days!

Eureka! I painted the bird cage with Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch in Heirloom White. Just a light coat. I dropped the light from the top of the cage and cut 2 strips of canvas drop cloth to weave through the cage to diffuse the light.
I love how it turned out!

The Greatest Show on Earth!

The house has been VERY quiet this week! Our nephew spent last week with us. Besides the massive amount of rain, we managed to make it to the pool several times and then to the circus!
I had not been to the circus since college, yeah, about 20 years ago! Since this was the highlight of our week, I wanted to make it the most incredible experience. Here is to help you plan your excursion!
Summer 2012 009 copy
  • Google for promotion codes from local sponsors: Chick-fil-A and local radio stations had codes. The code I used took the price of the tickets from $18 to $10.
  • Even though the circus was at a NFL football stadium, the circus only uses about 1/2 the field and ALL the seats were good. We bought front and center, but there was action on all 3 sides of the stage!
  • Baby’s First Circus: If you have an infant, go to the website and get a FREE ticket!
  • Take advantage of the Animal Open House and All Access Power Up Pre-show Party. Arrive to the circus an hour and a half before show time and get up close and personal to the animals and performers.
  • Stop for dinner before going in. Food is EXPENSIVE at the circus!
  • Souvenirs are also EXPENSIVE! However, if you go to Pre-show, there are freebies. Also, snowcones, lemonade and cotton candy come with souvenir packaging, so that kinda made up for the price.

What a great way to end the week!
On Saturday, Mister and Master Whimsy and Mason left to meet back up with his parents at the farm. Papa has a doctor appointment in the big city tomorrow, so my boys stayed at the farm to help out. I stayed here to take Miss Whimsy BACK to camp on Sunday. Although its vewy vewy quiet around here, I have been in “get er done” mode. So back to cleaning the master closet!
Have a great week!
